Overcoming Fears

I am easily startled. This is nothing new. So when I saw my brother attempting these same squats with the TRX System, I was convinced that this was something I’d never be able to achieve. For one, body weight squats for someone as heavy as me are not easy. But I’ve been able to really get them done, especially thanks to my pre-workout, which really gets the adrenaline pumping.

So, back to the TRX. When I first grabbed onto these things and tried to lean back, I quickly retreated. I could see myself now, feet slipping, me hitting the ground, and my pride being so hurt that I could never walk back into this Planet Fitness. I looked my brother in the face and said, “I can’t do this, there is no freaking way.” But he insisted. So I watched him a little more, and then I attempted it over and over again. And then, I had it. It felt comfortable. I was so ecstatic, so I did it again. And I couldn’t be stopped. My freaking soul caught fire. I was so excited. I got so giddy, I made my brother record me. I originally wanted the video to study my form and to correct what I  could do better. But then, in a moment of pre-workout jitters and ecstasy, I posted the video below on Facebook. After reading the comments (which you can read here), I felt unstoppable. I felt like I was inspiring people. And that inspires me to really put myself out there & show others that anything really is possible with hard work.

“A dream doesn’t become reality through magic; it takes sweat, determination and hard work.” – Colin Powell
